Major Mainline Leak Affects George Town Customers

Water Authority – Cayman is thanking its customers and the general public for their patience yesterday as large portions of the greater George Town area were affected by intermittent service interruptions and low water pressure due to a major mainline leak.

Water pressure issues were identified by the Authority’s Operations team early yesterday morning (Tuesday, 5 September). By mid-morning, the Authority had determined that the leak was somewhere west of Prospect and began working diligently to locate the leak by isolating portions of the piped water distribution network. This caused sporadic service interruptions for customers as the Authority’s investigations moved further west.

The Authority apologises for any inconvenience these service interruptions may have caused and thanks its customers for calling in to report their water outages as these calls assisted greatly in the efforts to locate the leak.

The Authority’s Operations – Water Supply team worked diligently into the night and managed to locate and isolate the leak at approximately 11pm. No residents were affected directly by the leak and the pipeline was closed off. The Water Supply team will resume their efforts this morning to replace the broken section of pipeline and restore service to the commercial building affected.

Due to the location of the leak, some customers in the George Town area may still experience lower than normal water pressure until the repairs are completed. Customers and the general public are encouraged to visit the Authority’s website and social media pages for updates during the day.

Once again, the Authority thanks its customers and the general public for their patience and understanding, and apologises for any inconvenience caused.
