Sewage Safety

Although the Authority tries to make certain that, wherever possible, water and sewerage services are not interrupted during a hurricane, it may be necessary to temporarily disrupt service in order to protect the distribution system, or due to a damaged plant, road, pipeline, or the loss of electrical power.

Should water or sewerage services need to be interrupted, the Authority will give as much notice as possible to customers via local radio, print and television news media, the Authority website, and social media.

During and after a hurricane, it is possible that sewerage and septic systems can flood and release untreated sewage into local waterways or floodwaters.
