Groundwater Abstraction Licence

Groundwater Abstraction Licence

The abstraction of groundwater for any purpose other than single residential use requires a licence under the Water Authority Law. The Authority regulates the use of groundwater to protect the source and to protect the environment. Depending on the nature of the abstraction the Authority may require specific documentation, studies or monitoring to determine the effects of the abstraction on groundwater.

A condition to apply for a groundwater abstraction licence is that the developer has Planning Permission.

The Authority may include specific conditions in the groundwater abstraction licence to protect groundwater.
